The company’s waste-based LBM was loaded onto Avenir LNG’s 7,500-cbm vessel, Avenir Ascension, at the LNG terminal in Klaipėda. It was then transported to Sweden for bunkering the dual-fuel vessels of Destination Gotland.

Destination Gotland plans to increase its use of LBM from 2026 to generate overcompliance for its FuelEU Maritime pooling arrangement, Henry Hammarström, head of sales at Gotland Carbon Solutions said.

Destination Gotland, a subsidiary of Swedish ferry operator Gotlandsbolaget, operates ferry services between Gotland and the Swedish mainland.

Two LNG dual-fuel vessels in its fleet are part of Gotlandsbolaget’s FuelEU pooling service, operated through Gotland Carbon Solutions, according to the company’s website.

The compliance surplus generated from using LBM on these vessels will then be sold to buyers in the pool to offset FuelEU compliance shortfalls on their EU-trading vessels and avoid penalties.

Last year, Anew Climate completed its first LBM loading at the Port of Long Beach on a Seaspan Energy vessel, supplying bunkers for ships operating along the west coast of North America.
