C2X has set an ambitious target to produce 3 million mt/year of green methanol by 2030. To achieve this, the company plans to build its own methanol production assets and operate them.
The start-up is actively exploring methanol projects in various locations, including the port of Huelva in Spain, the Suez Canal in Egypt, as well as other sites in the US, India and Australia.
The green methanol will be made from e-methanol, derived from renewable energy sources or from bio-methanol produced from agricultural and forestry residues, A.P. Moller Holding said.
C2X plans to supply a portion of the green methanol produced to Maersk’s methanol-fuelled container ships and their upcoming methanol ships.
Earlier this month, Maersk signed a green-methanol supply contract with Norway-based energy company Equinor its methanol-fueled feeder vessel.
“C2X was founded to enable the energy transition in several hard-to-abate industries, including plastics, glues, textiles, and fuels,” said Robert M. Uggla, chief executive officer of A.P. Moller Holding.
