The vessels will be able to run on LPG or conventional marine fuels. The carriers will be fully capable of carrying ammonia in addition to LPG.
The company expects the vessels to be delivered in 2026.
Upon delivery, the gas carriers will be deployed under a long-term charter with Chartering and Shipping Services (CSSA), a subsidiary of French energy company TotalEnergies.
The vessel will join a fleet of 114 LPG-fuelled gas carriers in operation globally, according to the classification society DNV.
LPG seems to be a preferred alternative fuel choice among gas carrier owners, with LPG carriers (113) and a singular LPG/ammonia carrier making up all LPG-fuelled vessels.
The number of LPG-fuelled vessels will increase to 192 towards 2028, with 78 vessels on order – 70 LPG carriers and eight LPG/ammonia carriers.
