MOL trials B30 biofuel blend on coal carrier
Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) recently trialed a B30 biofuel blend on its coal carrier, Hokulink — a first for a Japanese electric power company.

The delivered fuel stem was a B30 biofuel blend, made up of 30% organic material from biomass sources like waste cooking oil, mixed with 70% conventional fuel—though the specific conventional fuel was not disclosed.
The vessel Hokulink, which transports coal for Japan’s Hokuriku Electric Power Company, received the fuel at South Korea’s port of Yeosu before starting its trial voyage.
This is the first time a Japanese electric power company has used a B30 biofuel blend for trial navigation, according to MOL.
However, further details about the delivery, including the supplier, have not been disclosed.
