MSC and DB Schenker ink biofuel agreement to reduce emissions
German supply chain management company DB Schenker has agreed with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to use 12,000 mt of biofuel component for its cargo movements.

The 12,000 mt of biofuel component will be blended between 20-30% to form around 50,000 mt of biofuel blend, which will be used on MSC’s containerships. The biofuel component has been derived from used cooking oil.
DB Schenker claims that this arrangement will save 35,000 mt of CO2 equivalents, equal to CO2 emission-free transportation of around 30,000 standard containers (TEU).
This will allow customers to book net-zero ocean transport and get an annual emission reduction certificate for their carbon footprint.
"Together with MSC, we are offering our customers a convenient and clean solution using the latest generation of marine biofuel to help them achieve a real additional reduction in their emissions,” says Thorsten Meincke global board member for air & ocean freight DB Schenker.
“One thing is certain: the more customers demand climate neutrality throughout supply chains, the faster we achieve clean container ocean freight," he adds.
