Under this programme, the IMO provides technical and policy assistance to developing and underdeveloped countries to help align their national shipping sectors with the IMO’s greenhouse gas (GHG) strategy goals.
This year, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, Mexico and Nigeria will receive support to develop national action plans to reduce GHG emissions from their domestic shipping sectors.
India, Indonesia, Türkiye and Vietnam have been selected to develop pilot projects focused on the use of zero- and near-zero-emission marine fuels and related bunkering infrastructure. Assistance will cover “technical and economic feasibility studies, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement strategies, and administrative support,” the IMO said.
