Northern Lights is a carbon capture and storage joint venture by Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies.
The CO2 carrier Northern Pathfinder will transport liquefied CO2 from European capture sites to the Northern Lights receiving terminal in Øygarden, western Norway. Its first operational customer will be the German building materials company Heidelberg Materials.
The vessel was constructed by China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry, which also delivered the first ship in the series, Northern Pioneer, in November. Two additional vessels are currently under construction at Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore.
All four ships will be managed by K LINE LNG Shipping, a subsidiary of the Japanese company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K LINE).
