Dubbed the CONVEY project, it intends to produce and distribute at least 500 mt/year of green hydrogen at the Port of Hirtshals in Northern Jutland, Denmark. The project entails the construction of a 5-megawatt (MW) electrolyser, a large-scale hydrogen refuelling station for heavy-duty trucks and a distribution network.

Norwegian Hydrogen has not disclosed if any portion of the production capacity has been earmarked for bunkering.

Renewable electricity sourced from local wind turbines will be used to produce green hydrogen. The project is expected to be completed in the next five years.

Other members of the consortium include Vireon, Port of Hirtshals, Greenport North, Hirtshals Transport Center, biomega, Onnest (previously Lancar Nutri), Vendelbo Spedition, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Next Consult, and Hydrogen Valley.

The project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe framework within the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. The Horizon Europe program is the EU’s key funding program for research and innovation aiming to tackle climate change.
