Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) will time-charter the bulk carrier to Japan’s Kambara Kisen. The companies have not confirmed where it will be deployed, where it will bunker or which specific fuels it will run on. It could be a mixture of green methanols and conventional fuels.
“The primary fuels are expected to be bio-methanol and e-methanol, produced using hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources and recovered carbon dioxide,” NYK said in August.
There are currently 59 methanol-capable ships in operation and another 369 on order for delivery by 2030 – including 53 bulk carriers, according to DNV data.
