Port of Antwerp-Bruges reports massive LNG bunker growth
Antwerp-Bruges saw exponential growth in LNG bunker supply last year, but is still far off Rotterdam's volumes.
LNG bunker fuel sales in Antwerp-Bruges since Q1 2022

Changes in LNG fuel sales between 2022 and 2023:
- Antwerp-Bruges sales up from 3,400 mt to 31,000 mt
- Antwerp sales up from 1,200 mt to 9,300 mt
- Zeebruggesales up from 2,200 mt to 22,000 mt
Total LNG bunker sales in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges jumped 808% higher in 2023, supported by particularly strong second and third quarters.
The port released Antwerp LNG sales data which goes back to the second quarter of 2021, while Zeebrugge’s LNG deliveries are recorded from as far back as 2016. Antwerp-Bruges’ combined LNG sales reached their highest ever level last year.
Antwerp’s LNG sales grew more than sixfold on the year in 2023. Sales rose in every quarter, with the most sold - 3,000 mt - in the second quarter. Sales slowed down in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a moderate 3% rise compared to the same period in 2022.
More than seven times more LNG was sold in Zeebrugge in 2023 than in 2022. All 2024 quarters registering sales above the 2,000 mt mark. No LNG sales were recorded in Zeebrugge in the third quarter of 2022, while in 2023 this was the biggest sales quarter of the year.
Rotterdam remains the biggest port for LNG bunkering. Its LNG bunker sales of at 251,000 mt in 2023 were eight times greater than Antwerp-Bruges'. It was also twice as much LNG as was sold in Singapore, which registered 111,000 mt.
