HyOrc has signed a memorandum of understanding with Portugal-based fuel trading firm Start Lda for the project.
The plant is expected to use HyOrc’s proprietary technology to convert waste-derived organic feedstocks into bio-methanol through gasification and synthesis.
The company is also developing a 13,000 mt/year bio-methanol plant in Scunthorpe, UK, using the same technology.
HyOrc plans to supply the combined 38,000 mt/year of bio-methanol to the shipping and industrial sectors.
It has not disclosed further details about its technology or provided a timeline for the projects.
