Ammonia-ready means that the vessels will not be capable of running on ammonia upon delivery. These vessels will have the option to be retrofitted for ammonia propulsion in the future. This implies they will most likely run on fossil marine fuels upon delivery.
The two gas carriers, each with a capacity of 45,000 cbm, are primarily intended for transporting ammonia. However, the company has not yet specified a delivery date.
Once delivered, the company will manage one of the world’s largest ammonia transport fleets, consisting of nine vessels, according to Purus.
The fleet currently includes three 40,000 cbm MGCs, with four additional 45,000 cbm MGCs scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026.
In June, Purus’ MGC, Green Power, completed its first ammonia ship-to-ship (STS) cargo transfer near Ceuta in the Strait of Gibraltar.
