The missiles were launched at a merchant vessel, Pinocchio, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported. It did not sustain any physical damage.
The vessel was attacked 71 nautical miles southwest of Saleef, Yemen, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency.
The Iran-aligned militia’s spokesperson Yahya Sare’e claimed the attack on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The US CENTCOM later conducted six self-defense strikes that took down 18 ballistic anti-ship missiles and one “unmanned underwater vessel” in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
The container ship is owned by Singapore-based company OM-MAR 5 INC, Reuters cited shipping databases operated by Equasis and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
