In the latest series of missile attacks, Houthi forces targeted US naval ships patrolling the Red Sea yesterday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

The Yemen-based militants launched one airborne unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) toward the US Navy’s guided missile destroyers USS Laboon and USS Philippine Sea, CENTCOM said. The UAV was successfully destroyed, it added.

Houthis also fired three anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) and three UAVs toward MV Cyclades, a Malta-flagged, Greece-owned cargo vessel, CENTCOM said. “Initial reports indicate there were no injuries and the vessel continued on its way,” it added.

However, the Yemeni militia’s spokesperson Yahya Sare’e claimed attacks on two commercial vessels on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) yesterday.

ASBMs and UAVs are drones that the Houthis have been using to attack commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

These attacks in the Red Sea have escalated geopolitical tensions and fueled supply concerns in the global oil market.
