The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm named Dana, moving toward the Odisha-West Bengal coast. The storm is expected to make landfall between Bhitarkanika Park and Dhamra Port early Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall alerts for several districts across the states.
At Paradip, all vessels within port limits have been moved to safe waters, and cargo operations have been suspended. Dhamra has shifted vessels from the berth and anchorage to a safe sea area, halting port activities, including truck and rake movements.
In Haldia, cargo operations for vessels already docked continue, but midnight sailings have been cancelled, and inward movements at oil jetties are suspended for Thursday and Friday. Vessels at Sandheads Anchorage have been relocated to safer areas due to the storm, according to GAC Hot Port News.
Bunker supply at Haldia's anchorage may be affected, but supply at the berth will remain unaffected, a source says.
