The natural gas giant Shell has bought 100% shares of the Danish company from a group of investors, including Pioneer Point Partners, Davidson Kempner Capital Management, and Sampension. Under the terms of the agreement, Nature Energy will retain its brand initially, and eventually operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell.
With the acquisition, Shell will now own Nature Energy’s 14 industrial-scale biomethane plants and an international development pipeline of about 30 plants across Europe and North America. Shell will also get access to the design, construction and operating portfolio of the power-generating plants of the company.
“This acquisition supports Shell’s ambitions to build an integrated RNG value chain at a global scale and to profitably grow its low-carbon offerings to customers across multiple sectors,” Shell said in a statement.
Nature Energy has previously said it plans to produce 120,000 mt/year of liquified biogas (LBG) that can be supplied as fuel to vessels docked at the Port of Frederikshavn in Denmark.
