The MPA has developed 'WA 2:2022' in consultation with industry experts. The document is a set of provisional national standards for marine biofuel specifications.

The standards were developed under the purview of the Singapore Standard Council’s sub-committee Chemicals Standards Committee, a circular by the MPA states.

The port authority has asked all licensed bunker suppliers, bunker craft operators, bunker surveyors, buyers and fuel testing labs to use the WA 2:2022 standard for biofuel bunkering.

To further biofuel trial runs, the MPA has requested bunker suppliers to supply International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified biofuel.

The MPA has mandated that mass flow meters be used for biofuel deliveries, as is the mandate for other marine fuel grades. Mass flow meters had been in place for several years in Singapore.

Additionally, the MPA has instructed that no biofuel blending should be carried out onboard bunker tankers within Singapore.
