Classification society’s DNV latest tally shows that there are now 234 confirmed methanol-fuelled vessels in operation and on order, up from 230 in October.

Only four methanol-fuelled vessels were added to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) database in November. This is significantly fewer than 14 in October and 12 in September.
The largest share of newbuild orders for methanol-fuelled vessels is container ships (157), followed by tankers (39) and car carriers (10), according to the DNV's latest update.
Despite a slower month for newbuild orders for methanol-fuelled vessels, the strong interest from the shipping industry to order these vessels persists, DNV's principal consultant Martin Christian Wold said in a social media post.
Four LNG-fuelled vessels were also ordered in November, down from six in October.
