The two 15,000-dwt methanol-ready chemical tankers will be chartered to Preem upon delivery in the second half of 2026. Both claim that the tankers will be equipped with a 2-stroke conventional engine that can be converted for methanol operations in the future.
Methanol-ready means that the vessels will not be capable of running on methanol upon delivery, but they will have the option to be retrofitted for methanol propulsion in the future. This implies they will likely run on fossil-based marine fuels upon delivery.
Sirius Shipping, however, has not mentioned any details on when they plan to retrofit the vessels for methanol propulsion.
Each tanker will be equipped with an onboard battery system and will be able to connect to shore power when docked at the port.
Preem will use the vessels to transport renewable fuels and feedstock.
