It is a joint project between TECO 2030, oil & gas major Shell, Swedish shipping company Ektank and shipping classification society DNV. It received a €5 million ($5.4 million) grant under the EU's Horizon Europe scheme.
As part of the project, hydrogen fuel cell maker TECO 2030 will retrofit an 18,600 dwt product tanker with six 400 kilowatts (kW) fuel cell modules and 4,000 kg compressed hydrogen storage for demonstration in 2024.
TECO 2030 adds that the project will “demonstrate power supply for both propulsion and auxiliary loads using hydrogen with zero emissions as fuel.”
