TUI Cruises doubles down on LBM in Europe

German cruise operator TUI Cruises will step up its use of liquefied biomethane (LBM) across its European cruise programme.

Its dual-fuel cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax operates its Northern European itineraries
entirely on LBM during the summer season, TUI Cruises said.

The itineraries cover destinations across Scandinavia, the Baltic region and other parts of Northern Europe, according to its website.

Another vessel, Mein Schiff Flow, has been “regularly bunkering” LBM in Barcelona since May 2026, and will continue using the fuel beyond the winter season, the operator added.

As of July 2026, the use of LBM had reduced the company's GHG emissions by around 26,000 mtCO2e compared with conventional marine fuels. TUI Cruises expects those savings to reach 50,000 mtCO2e by the end of the year, chief executive Wybcke Meier said.
