US crude oil output hit record in April – EIA

July 2, 2025

Crude oil production in the US hit a record 13.47 million b/d in April, up from 13.45 million b/d in March, according to data released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) in its Petroleum Supply Monthly report.

In its monthly oil market report, OPEC projected an increase in liquid fuels supply from non-OPEC countries next year, led by the US. The country's total oil output is expected to touch about 22.3 million b/d in 2026, OPEC said.

However, the EIA has projected a much smaller growth in US crude oil output. The agency sees crude oil production to average more than 13.4 million b/d in 2025 and slightly below 13.4 million b/d in 2026.

“With fewer active drilling rigs, we forecast U.S. operators will drill and complete fewer wells through 2026,” the EIA said in its latest oil market report.

This highlights a divergence in outlooks between OPEC and the EIA, with OPEC projecting robust non-OPEC supply growth driven by the US, while the EIA anticipates a slowdown in US crude production due to declining rig activity.
