The company is securing a site at the Port of Oulu for its planned plant that will focus on hydrogen and synthetic fuel production.
“We are interested in building a plant for high value-added production in Oulu because the region provides an abundance of affordable renewable energy and biogenic carbon dioxide,” Verso Energy chief executive Antoine Huard said.
The company has not disclosed further details about its hydrogen and synthetic fuel project, including whether some of the produced fuels will be allocated to the shipping sector.
It will share more information at the Northern Power event in Oulu in February next year.
Consultancy firm AFRY Finland has assessed the project's chances of realisation as high.
Verso Energy, which has already launched multiple hydrogen and synthetic fuel projects in France, offers its fuels for use in both aviation and shipping industries.
