The vessel is equipped with a propulsion system that combines liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. Developed and supplied by Fincantieri subsidiary, Isotta Fraschini Motori, the system will have a power output of up to 6 megawatts (MW).
Viking Astrea is scheduled for delivery in May 2027 and will begin its inaugural season operating itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
The launch follows Viking’s unveiling of Viking Libra in March. Described as the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of zero-emission operation, Viking Libra is scheduled for delivery in November 2026, according to Viking.
