The 11,700 CEU-capacity vessels will be able to operate on both methanol and conventional marine fuels. These ships will also be designed to be ammonia-ready, meaning they won’t run on ammonia upon delivery but can be retrofitted for ammonia propulsion in the future.

The newly exercised options are part of four previously announced options, with delivery expected in the second half of 2028. Under this agreement, Wallenius Wilhelmsen retains options for two more vessels, which can be confirmed by the second half of 2025.

Additionally, the company plans to upsize two more vessels from 9,300 CEU to 11,700 CEU, increasing the total number of upsized vessels to eight. This brings Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s methanol dual-fuel vessels on order to a total of 14: eight with a capacity of 11,700 CEU and six with a capacity of 9,300 CEU.
