The ten-cylinder, 92-bore methanol dual-fuel engine is set for delivery to an undisclosed shipyard after passing factory and type approval tests. The engine is intended for a 16,000 TEU container ship, but the company has not provided further details about the vessel, including its owner or construction timeline.

WinGD claims it to be “the biggest methanol-fuelled engine built to date.”

There are currently 56 methanol dual-fuel engines on order, with bore sizes ranging from 52 to 92—the latter being the largest, according to the company.

The engine was launched at engine manufacturer CSSC-MES Diesel (CMD) in Shanghai, with executives from WinGD, CMD and shipbuilder China State Shipbuilding Corporation in attendance. Eight classification societies were also present to approve the methanol dual-fuel engine.
