The study will assess how Barbados can participate in green corridor partnerships, identify the two most promising routes for zero-emission vessel operations, and outline a roadmap along with the necessary policy and regulatory frameworks to support implementation.
Participants from Barbados include the Maritime Transport Administration, the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, and the Barbados Port.
An initial virtual meeting was held earlier this month between the Government of Barbados, national stakeholders, and the IMO to initiate the process.
The IMO will continue collaborating closely with the Barbadian government and relevant stakeholders as the study advances. Ricardo consultancy group is providing technical support.
Funding is being provided through the IMO’s Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP), which supports developing countries in addressing maritime priorities. The initiative also builds on earlier efforts under the GreenVoyage2050 Programme, aimed at helping developing states transition to low- and zero-carbon maritime transport.
