The voyage was made by Eagle Bulk Shipping’s bulk carrier, M/V Stamford Eagle, which was bunkered with GoodFuels’ MDF1-100 biofuel. MDF1-100 is produced from used cooking oils, which serve as raw materials for producing sustainable biofuels.
The voyage was supported by the ship’s charterers - French mining company Eramet and it's subsidiary Eramet Norway.
The company claims that biofuel reduced carbon dioxide emissions by almost 80% in a life-cycle assessment.
Eagle Bulk Shipping stated in a social media post that “this most recent biofuel voyage demonstrates our ability to partner with charterers who share our commitment to sustainability initiatives and emissions reductions."
Exploration and the uptake of biofuels have been gaining momentum among shipowners as they look to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Recently, European aerospace major Airbus initiated an 18-month trial run for renewable fuel on one of its ro-ro vessels.
