HyFive is developing a 100,000 mt/year e-methanol project on Spain's Atlantic coast, with operations expected to begin by 2029.

It has "signed a comprehensive term sheet for a significant portion of the initial production volumes and continues commercial discussions with potential offtakers, including shipping companies active in the ARA region," the company said.

Meanwhile, Evos is constructing five methanol and ethanol storage tanks with a combined capacity of 67,500 cbm at the Port of Rotterdam, along with a new pump station and jetty. The infrastructure is scheduled for completion by 2028.

The Rotterdam terminal offers connectivity by vessel, barge, truck and rail, while the storage facilities comply with international methanol standards, Evos said.

Under the agreement, the companies will assess the logistical and operational requirements for storing e-methanol produced at HyFive's planned facility using the new infrastructure and supplying it across the ARA region.

“While this is an initial step, it is an important milestone in assessing downstream infrastructure options that could help meet growing demand for cleaner marine fuels in the ARA region,” said Alberto Sanchez de Rojas, general manager at HyFive.
