Final equipment installation is now in progress at the site. Testing is scheduled to be completed, with regular production set to begin by mid-year.

A portion of the green hydrogen produced at the port will be supplied to a newly built hydrogen-powered waste collection vessel commissioned by the Port Authority, which will also operate within the port area.

At the production and supply facility, hydrogen will be produced using a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyser, with full capacity estimated at around 127 mt/year.

“The Port of Klaipėda will soon become the first producer of green hydrogen in Lithuania and among the Baltic states, as well as a creator and part of a new sustainable fuel ecosystem,” Klaipėda State Seaport Authority’s chief executive Algis Latakas said.

The €12 million ($14 million) project is partly funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme.
