US fuel production and supply declines
The US produced 13% less fuel oil per day on average in January so far compared to December, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Changes in monthly US residual fuel oil from December to January (so far):
- Production down 43,000 b/d to 280,000 b/d
- Supply down 119,000 b/d to 303,000 b/d
- Imports down 119,000 b/d to 102,000 b/d
Volumes of fuel oil supplied out of US storage tanks have decreased in January so far. The fuel oil goes to outlets like bunker fuel blenders and bulk terminals, refinery coking units for upgrades to higher-value products, or to power generation.
Supply, which can also imply demand, has decreased from 422,000 b/d in December 2025 to 303,000 b/d as of 23 January, the EIA reports.
US refineries have produced 43,000 b/d less fuel oil in January so far, while imports have decreased by 119,000 b/d.
Total US fuel oil stocks have increased by 1.37 million bbls on the month to 23.83 million bbls.
